Jerry Hites

Jerry L. Hites, 82, of Champaign died at Presence Covenant Medical Center on Sunday, August 20, 2017.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 23 at 11:00 am at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign. Owens Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Jerry was born on Feb. 8, 1935 in Edgewood, a son of Lester and Bessie (Burgess) Hites. He married Virginia "Rennie" Andres in December 1956.

He is survived by his wife, Rennie; a son, Mike (Jennifer) Hites of Champaign and a daughter, Lori (Jeff) Brown of Bondville; 5 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and 1 sister, Faye Dang of Florida.  He was preceded in death by 1 brother and 3 sisters.

Jerry was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Urbana. He worked for the City of Champaign in the traffic and meter department for 35 years, earning retirement in 1990. He proudly served in the National Guard. Jerry loved playing BINGO and making crafts for his family members. They fondly remember him making scarves, paintings, needlepoint and wood crafts for them.
