Walter Edwin White, 94 of rural White Heath died at 9 p.m. Wednesday (March 28, 2012) at Carle Hospital of Urbana.
Mr. White was born Jan. 6, 1918 at White Heath, son of Edwin G. and Harriet Wilcox White. He married Virginia Clark White on August 2, 1940 in Champaign. She passed away in May 1994.
Surviving are two sons, James E. (Geraldine) White of Seymour and David C. (Jane) White of Bement; two daughters Margaret (Bill) Scranton of Mt. Sterling IL and Mary (Tom) Murphy of White Heath. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Elizabeth (Bill Bell) Murphy of Champaign, Megan Murphy of Homer AK, Kate (Ian) Orland of Madison WI, David (Carrie) Scranton of Cedar Hill MO, Harriet Scranton Clark of St. Louis MO, Tom (Joy) Patton of Valparaiso FL; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother Francis R. White.
Mr. White was a 1940 graduate of the University of Illinois and a lifelong farmer on the family farm east of White Heath. He was an active member in his community and a member of the Seymour United Methodist Church. His activities included Piatt Co. Farm Bureau, founding member and trustee of the White Heath Fire Dept., Sangamon Township Clerk, 4-H Leader, Boy Scout Leader, and member of the Piatt County Historical & Genealogical Society, with a particular interest in local history.
A memorial service will be held at a later date with inurnment in the Monticello Township Cemetery.
