Thomas Edward Ray, 83, of Rantoul, Illinois, passed away on March 16, at home with his wife by his side.
Thomas was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara S. Ray; his children, Linda Matzigkeit (JP Matzigkeit), Brenda Lindner, and Andy Ray; his cherished grandchildren, Grant Matzigkeit, Brooke Lindner, Elizabeth Lindner, Austin Ray, Abigayl Ray, and Lucas Ray and Great-Grandchildren Hayden, Parker and Athena Ray. He took immense pride in his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought him endless joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Esther Ray, and his brothers, Don Ray, Dale Ray, and Bob Ray.
Thomas proudly served his country in the United States Army as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, where he was a paratrooper from 1960 to 1963. Following his military service, Thomas retired from Humko Products Inc. after 20 years of dedicated work in Champaign, Illinois. His service was a source of great pride throughout his life.
He found happiness in the simple things—fishing, camping, and sharing coffee with his friends. He had a deep love for reading, especially the works of Louis L’Amour, and enjoyed writing his own stories. Thomas treasured the time he spent with his family, creating memories that will live on in their hearts forever. He would always leave you with three words “Love ya Babe,” “love ya kids” or “Love ya son.”
Those who knew Thomas will remember his warmth, his sense of humor, and the way he made others feel welcomed and valued. His legacy is one of love, strength, and devotion to family.
There will be a visitation on Saturday, March 28th from 12:30-1:30 pm at Owens Funeral Home, 101 North Elm St., Champaign. The memorial service will begin at 1:30 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign.
