Thomas Richard Jarboe died peacefully in his sleep on August 15th, 2023 after many years of struggling with Parkinsons. The funeral service will be on Friday, September 8th at St Boniface Catholic Church (416 County Road 1100N, Seymour) at 11am with a visitation one hour prior to the service (10:00-11:00).
Tom was born on August 23rd, 1945 in Paxton, IL to Joseph Jarboe and Ruth (Tempel) Jarboe.
He is survived by his five children Nicholas Jarboe, Joseph Jarboe, David Jarboe, Daniel Jarboe and Janelle (Jarboe) Lohr; nine grandchildren; and eight siblings.
Tom was a passionate scientist and expert in plasma physics and controlled fusion. He received his undergraduate degree in Engineering Physics from the University of Illinois in 1967. In 1974, he received his PhD in plasma physics from the University of California, Berkeley. He worked in the controlled fusion research division at Los Alamos National Laboratory until 1989, when he joined the University of Washington in 1989 as Professor of Nuclear Engineering. He retired from UW in 2019.
