Thomas Grimes

Thomas A. Grimes, 80, of Urbana, died on the evening of July 4, 2025 in Savoy. 

There will be a visitation on Monday, July 14 from 12-1pm at Owens Funeral Home, 101 N. Elm St, Champaign. The funeral service will begin at 1pm at the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign and military rites will be accorded. 

Tom was born on Oct 10, 1944 in Savanna, IL, a son of Duane and Elsie (Cirksena) Grimes. He married Elaine Osterhoff on Dec 18, 1976 in Champaign. She survives. 

Other survivors include his 2 brothers, Nathan Gehrts (Bridget) of TX and Bob Gehrts of OH; sister in law, Juanita Couch (Marshall); along with many loving nieces and nephews.

Tom was proud to have served in the US Army for 8 years. He worked at the U of I, where he ran the printing press. Tom retired in 2001 after 39 years of work. He was a devout Catholic and a longtime parishioner at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Urbana.
