Thelma L. Tuggle, age 89 of Monticello, passed away Monday, November 3, 2008 at Kirby Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P. M. Sunday, November 9, 2008 at the Monticello United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Eischen officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, November 8, 2008 from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home in Monticello. Internment will be held at the Monticello Township Cemetery.
Thelma was born November 1, 1919 in Cisco the daughter of Francis Elmer and Louie (Cook) Swarts. She married Telvin Tuggle on September 29, 1940 in Cisco, IL.
Surviving are her daughters: Linda R. Shroyer of Decatur, Carol A. Tuggle of Monticello, and Harriet J. Kunesh of Bartlett, 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 brothers and 1 sister.
Thelma was a retired Registered Nurse at Carle Hospital. She was a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church, Unitarian Church of Clinton, Wesleyan Womens Group, DAR-Stephen Decatur Chapter, Piatt County Museum, Piatt County Historical & Genealogical Society, Piatt County Home Extension, Illinois Family Campers, Services for Seniors, Girl Scouts and Sunday School teacher, AARP, Volunteer of the Year at Allerton Park, and Monticello Senior Citizen of the Year in 2004. Thelma also helped to originate the Vial of Life Program.
Memorials may be made to the Piatt County Museum, the Piatt County Historical & Genealogical Society or the Monticello United Methodist Church.
