MONTICELLO Sylvia Cheki, 95, of Monticello, formerly of Mt Prospect, IL died December 30, 2008 at Kirby Hospital, Monticello.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday January 1st, 2009 at Mackey Wright Funeral Home, 215 E. Washington St. Monticello, IL. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday January 2nd, 2009 at St. Philomena Catholic Church, 1301 N. Market St. in Monticello, IL. Internment will be at Maryhill Cemetery in Niles, IL where there will be a chapel service at 11 a.m. on January 3, 2009.
Sylvia was born on April 23rd, 1913 in Chicago, the daughter of Joseph and Bernice Kobielski. She married Chester Cheki on August 1, 1936. Chester preceded her in death on April 21, 1997. Also preceding her in death is her sister Estelle Jendy of Niles, IL -March 12th, 1990.
Sylvia chose the career and role of wife and mother. Becoming highly skilled in each, she helped guide the family through all kinds of situations; knowing that the results would be worth it. She was very active in the Church. She worked very hard as her husbands partner doing Christs work in the Deaconate.
She is survived by her daughter, Collette and Son-in-Law, Howard Pokorny of Monticello, IL.
She is survived by her grandchildren Chris (Tracy) Pokorny of Monticello, IL., Kevin (Gail) Pokorny of Barrington, IL., Terri (John) Rupkey of Monticello, IL., and Jason Pokorny of Monticello, IL.
She is survived by her great grandchildren Samantha Rupkey, Kendal Pokorny, Elizabeth Rupkey, Jakob Pokorny, Jessica Rupkey, Benjamin Pokorny, Reagan Pokorny, and Addison Pokorny.
