Stanley Mackey Obituary
Stanley D. Mackey, 92, of Monticello, passed away at 1:30 pm, February 4, 2008 at the Piatt County Nursing Home in Monticello.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 10, 2008 from 3:00 6:00 PM at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home in Monticello. Funeral Service will be on Monday, February 11, 2008 at 10:30 AM at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Beedy officiating. Interment will be in the Monticello Township Cemetery.
Stanley was born July 17, 1915 in rural Mansfield to John Mackey and Bessie Grooms Mackey. He began farming with his father when he was eight years old, using horse-drawn machinery. He continued to farm in the Cisco area until his retirement in 1993.
He married Twilia Nadine Valentine on December 5, 1936 in White Heath. Stanley and Twilia proudly celebrated 71 years of marriage last December. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, John (Marilyn) Mackey of Cisco, Joe (Jean) Mackey of Pekin; two daughters: Jean (Dick) Clarke of Coarsegold, CA, Joyce Boeringer, Titusville, FL, one brother: Olen Mackey of Urbana, two sisters: Darlene Floyd of Decatur and Ruth Parsons of Monticello, five grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and ten step- great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister, one step- brother and three step-sisters.
Mr. Mackey was a past Sangamon Township Assessor and he umpired little league games for many years. He served as a 4-H leader and he was basketball time keeper for Cisco and Monticello grade schools. Stanley was best known for his extensive collection of antique farm tools and tractors. He was an avid collector all of his life and he was asked to display his collection at numerous tractor shows and exhibits, including the 2007 Piatt County Barn Tour. He also participated in many antique tractor drives.
He was a member of the Cisco United Methodist Church, the I&I Tractor Club, the Corn Collectors Club, and the 2 Cylinder Club. He was a past board member of the Piatt County Museum and the Cisco Grain Co-Op Elevator. He enjoyed watching college basketball and Cardinals baseball. Although he officially retired from farming in 1993, he continued to help his son and grandson farm. Last years crop marked the 84th crop he helped harvest. Stanley always had a story to tell or a joke to brighten your day.
