Sherri Somers

Elaine 'Sherri' Somers, 73, died at 6:46pm on March 15, 2026 at her Champaign home.  

There will be a funeral service at 11:00am on March 21 at Owens Funeral Home (101 N. Elm St.) in Champaign, with the visitation one hour prior to the service (10:00-11:00).  Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Champaign.  

Sherri was born on September 9, 1952 in Urbana, a daughter of Alvin and Frances Schaefer.  She married Russell Somers in Ivesdale on March 26, 1983.  Russ died on October 5, 2025.

Survivors include: three sons, Justin Somers of Champaign, Jonathon Olden of Savoy and Cory Olden of Champaign; three grandchildren, Devon, Maddie and Zach; one great-grandson, Braxton; one brother, James Schaefer of Monticello; two sisters, Sandra Underwood of Tuscola, Darlene Miller of Broadlands.  

She and her husband were longtime members of the American Legion Post #24 and Sherri was active with the Legion Auxiliary.  She also enjoyed crocheting and watching soap operas on daytime television and her family.
