Shawn Lee Haas

Shawn Lee Haas, 56, Elkins W.Va., formerly of Urbana, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2020.

Shawn was born Sept. 13, 1963, in Gibson City, the only son of the late Gill and Carol Haas.Shawn was raised in Urbana and graduated from Urbana Senior High School in 1981.

After graduating, he enlisted in the Army, where he served in a field artillery unit while being stationed in Germany. He was a second generation painter who worked with his father and later started his own business. His business took him to Alaska, Lake of the Ozarks and then West Virginia, where he settled. He was a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan who loved the rivalry with his father, who was a Bears fan.

Shawn had a big heart and loved spending time with friends, their children and family. He was very fond of and especially enjoyed spending time with Trey and Brie. Shawn’s greatest gift was his ability to make friends with anybody and to make them smile. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

Shawn is survived by his favorite Aunt Ruth (Jim) Winterland of Seiverville Tenn., Linda VanWinkle of Sieverville and Dale (Cathy) Rigsby of Fairbury.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020, at 11:30 a.m. at Chatsworth-Charlotte Cemetery, Chatsworth.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the United States Department of Veterans Affairs.
