Ruth Kucera

Miss Ruth's angels came to take her home May 15, 2026. She passed away at Accolade Healthcare of Paxton Senior Living, Paxton at 99 yrs old.

Ruth Vernon Thorne was born in Martin County, NC to Nita and Samuel Thorne Sept 20, 1926.

She received early education in Norfolk Virginia public schools. She attended William & Mary University of Virginia; Polytechnic institute in Norfolk Virginia; Medical College of Nursing School in Richmond Virginia; The Kings Daughters Hospital School of Nursing in Portsmouth Virginia. After receiving her RN degree she worked at Duke University Hospital in Durham NC and Rex Hospital in Raleigh NC.

She married Richard L. Bernard in June 1952 in Raleigh NC.

She is survived by her children, Alice Bernard, Betsy Marnell, Richard Bernard, Daniel Bernard.

She married Emil Kucera in June 1976 in Marion IL.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, One Sister Jessie Wright. One brother Gilbert Thorne. Her husband Emil Kucera whom she loved and missed dearly.

A special thanks goes out to Virgil "Bubba" Roderick who devoted his big heart and time taking care of her. Would also like thank Jamie Miller for helping out when he could by taking her to her doctors appointments and taking her to get groceries. These two are Gods special angels. Ruth loved them both.

Per Ruth's wishes there will be no services. She will be missed by everyone who knew her.
