Rita P Campbell, 88, of Seymour died at 8:05 pm, Saturday, January 27, 2018 at The Carriage Crossing in Savoy.
Funeral services will be at 10am on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018 at Owens Funeral Home, 101 N. Elm St., Champaign with Rev. Dr. Sheryl Palmer officiating. Burial will be at 1pm on Thursday at Watson Cemetery, Watson.
Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Campbell was born December 6, 1929, at Watson, a daughter of William J. and Josephine A. Potter Martin. She married Wilbur R. Campbell, on September 11, 1951, at Effingham.
Surviving are four daughters; Stephanie Dean (Buck) of White Heath, K. Jo Rohn (Andy) of Champaign, Denise Connour (Karl) of Champaign, and Christie Campbell-Hall (John) of Bondville: one son Charles M. Campbell of Seymour; one sister, Merle Buerger of Carbondale. She was ‘Gaboom’ to 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and awaiting her first great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur in 2002, a daughter Paula Thompson in 1998, a son Bill Campbell in 2009, five sisters and one brother.
After the birth of her first child, Mrs. Campbell was a homemaker for 27 years. She returned to work outside the home in 1978 and retired from Collegiate Cap and Gown in 1994. In later years, she played piano for church services at Seymour United Methodist Church when needed.
Her interest included playing the piano, crocheting, sewing and visiting with family and friends. She collected sheet music and thimbles.
