Richard Wyninger

Richard Wyninger, 89, died at 8:25am on September 4, 2025 at his home in Urbana.  There will be a visitation from 3:00-6:00pm on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at Owens Funeral Home (101 N. Elm St.) in Champaign, with a Rosary Service at 3:00.  The funeral mass will be at 9:30am on Wednesday, September 10 at St. Patricks Catholic Church (708 W. Main St.) in Urbana, Fr. Anthony Co will officiate.  Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Urbana.  

Survivors include a sister, Barbara Golden of Acworth, GA; two brothers, David Wyninger of Gambrills, MD; Steve Prestin of Urbana; son Rick (Holly) Wyninger; grandson, Max Wyninger of Champaign.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Linda Medrow and daughter, Melissa Wyninger.

Dick was a retired plumber and worked out of Local 149 and acted as President for several years.  He was a member of the C-U Elks Lodge and held the position of Tiler.  His contributions to the Elks resulted in increased donations to the Elks Children's Care Corporation, a charity close to his heart.  

Dick was known to everyone as 'Weiner' and always had a joke, funny story or a hearty 'tee hee hee' to share with those who crossed his path.  He was an avid Cubs fan and was a top-10 finalist to compete in the 2007 Ultimate Cubs Fan Contest at Wrigley Field, which was the highlight of his fandom.  His love for the Bears and Illinois Football and Basketball was displayed by his unmatched ability to dress for the occasion, sporting some of the most dapper ensembles the town has seen.  Dick's greatest love was his grandson, Max, never missing an event and tolerating a few dings and broken windows in his beloved Lincoln from baseball games.  

Dick was one of a kind, let's all raise a PBR in remembrance of the unforgettable Weiner.
