Richard Ogdon Obituary

Richard Earl Ogdon, 89, of Champaign, Illinois, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2025, at Haven of Bement in Bement, Illinois. He was born on December 4, 1935, in Rantoul, Illinois, to Laura Mae (Beightler) and Erville Ogdon.

Richard graduated from Urbana High School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962. His professional journey included roles at Sears, Roebuck & Co. in Champaign and Salkeld & Sons Sporting Goods in Kankakee before he found his calling as a real estate appraiser, a career he pursued successfully until his retirement.

A passionate sports enthusiast, Richard dedicated many years to officiating boys' high school basketball and umpiring men's baseball and fastpitch softball. His dedication to the sport earned him induction into the Illinois ASA Hall of Fame in 2015. He was also a lifetime member and past Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge #2497.

In his personal life, Richard enjoyed reading, playing golf, and supporting his favorite teams—the Green Bay Packers, St. Louis Cardinals, and the Fighting Illini. His love for sportsmanship extended beyond the field and court, reflecting his commitment to community and camaraderie.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Anne (Roark) Ogdon; their daughter Allison Ogdon (Mike); daughters Marla Ogdon and Regina Ogdon (LG); grandson Quinlan Ogdon; and his sister Lynn Manuel. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Robert "Bobby John" Ogdon; and his sister Patricia Alsop.

There will be no visitation or funeral services. Donations can be made in his memory at www.alz.org. A celebration of life will be arranged at a later date.
