Raymond C. Wichus Sr., 77 of Davenport, FL, formerly of Westville, passed away at 8:19 P.M., Friday, May 16, 2008 at Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center in Haines City, FL.
Funeral service will be at 3:00 P.M. Thursday, May 22, 2008 at the Christ Lutheran Church in Monticello with Rev. Allan Oman officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 PM Thursday at the Christ Lutheran Church. Mackey-Wright Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Raymond was born December 25, 1930 in Danville the son of John C. and Sophia (Markowski) Wichus. He married Ardith L. Olmstead on January 27, 1962. She passed away on January 26, 1994.
Surviving are his sons: Ray Wichus and John Wichus both of Monticello, Wayne L. Wichus of Veedersburg, IN, daughter: Kim Ginter of Warren, OH, 8 grandchildren and sister: Fran Yeakle of Sullivan. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother (John) and sister (Marianne Willette).
Raymond was a retired security officer at the Naval Training Center in Orlando and was also a security officer for Flexel and Olins in Covington, IN. Raymond served in the U.S. Marines for 30 years in which he served two tours in Vietnam, one tour in the Korean War, and was at the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was awarded two purple hearts, served as a drill instructor and played football for the Marines. He was a member of the Conchologist of America, was Past President of the Central Florida Shell Club and enjoyed mushroom hunting and scuba diving.
