Raymond Hayes Obituary

Mr. Raymond R. "Goozer" Hayes, age 80, of Monticello, Ill., died Friday, September 8, 2006, at Bement Health Care Center in Bement, Ill. .

Graveside service will be 10:00 AM, Monday, September 11, 2006, at the Ingram Cemetery in White Heath, Ill. with military graveside rites by the Hamme-Burke American Legion Post #101 and the Rev. Ben Hoerr officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Sunday September 10, 2006 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home in Monticello. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions maybe made to the American Cancer Society, PT Boats Inc. P.O. Box 38070 Memphis, TN. 38183-0070, Red Cloud Indian School 100 Mission Dr. Pine Ridge, S.D. 57770-2100, or Carle Hospice 206A W. Anthony Dr. Champaign, Ill. 61822.

Mr. Hayes was born August 20, 1926, in Galesville, Ill. the son of Thomas and Katherine (Hosler) Hayes. He married Betty Vinson on November 28, 1947 in Monticello, Ill.

Surviving are his wife; sons, Pat (Brenda) Hayes of Champaign, Ill., Tim Hayes of Monticello, Ill., daughter, Sara (Chris) Dubson of Farmer City; sister, Lulu Mae Rhoades of Monticello; 10 Grandchildren and 1 Great granddaughter.

He was preceded by his parents, 1 Son (Michael), 1 Brother (Robert), and 1 Granddaughter.

Mr. Hayes was a bricklayer and owner of Hayes Construction in Monticello. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II by first attending Salvage and Diving School and then on a PT Boat. After WWII he became a logger in the Redwoods. His hobbies were making wine and deep frying cajun turkeys.

Memberships include: Bircklayers and Allied Craft Workers Union Local #17, Hamme-Burke American Legion Post #101 of Monticello, Piatt County VFW Post #5346, and PT Boats Inc.
