Ralph Rose Obituary
Ralph Rose, Jr., 87, of Monticello, passed away at 1:50 AM, Friday, May 28, 2010 at Piatt County Nursing Home, Monticello.
Graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign. A memorial visitation will be held at Christ Lutheran Church of Monticello from 10:00-11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 1, 2010. Mackey-Wright Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Ralph was born July 3, 1922 in Ivesdale, the son of Ralph and Faye (Creel) Rose. He married Virginia L. Conley on November 22, 1942, after her passing he married Caroline Burchard Seymour on September 9, 1988.
Surviving are his wife; Caroline Rose of Monticello, son; William R. Rose (wife, Karen) of Dallas, TX, daughter; Jennifer A. Rose of Bloomington, brother; Gene H. (wife, Betty) Rose of Champaign, grandson; Joshua Wright of Springfield, MO, and step-grandson; Andrew (wife, Lindsay) Wright of Ozark, MO. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents and wife (Virginia).
Ralph graduated from Bement High School in 1940. He retired in 1988 after 33 years with the Urbana Post Office, also serving on the board of the Postal Credit Union. He also served seven years as a courier for First Federal Savings and Loan, Champaign. Ralph served with the U.S. Navy Seabees (1942-1945), Naval Air (1951-1952) and the Naval Reserve for 2 years, serving in WW II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Hamm-Burke American Legion Post #101 of Monticello, VFW Post #5520 of Champaign, Vice Commander and treasurer of AMVET Post #3 of Champaign, AMVET Building Corp member and past president, served on the board as president and vice president of the Urbana Sportsman Club, served on the Piatt County Mental Health Board as treasurer for 4 years, served as past president and treasurer of DR. Howard PTA, and was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church of Monticello.
Memorials may be made to the Christ Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
