Ralph L. Miller, 81, of Monticello, passed away at 12:15 PM, Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at the Piatt County Nursing Home, Monticello.
Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 AM, Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello with a graveside service to follow at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the Monticello Township Cemetery.
Ralph was born February 5, 1929 in rural Monticello, Piatt County, IL, the son of Ben L. and Mary Maude (McCosh) Miller. He married Lila E. Slifer on October 3, 1948 in Shelby County, IL.
Surviving are his wife; Lila Miller of Monticello, brother; Rolland Miller of Cerro Gordo, sisters; Shirley (Gary) Van Devener of Cocoa, FL, Barbara (Keith) Durham of Cottage Hill, IL, and Dorothy (Jim) Musgrave of Milton, FL. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother (Sara), brothers (Gerald F. Tiger and Raymond) and sister (Carol).
Ralphs education started in a Piatt County country school. He graduated from Monticello High School in 1947 and then from Illinois Commercial College. Ralphs many occupations included working at the Country Charm Dairy, Kaisers Store, a farmer, working in the accounting division at the University of Illinois, a vegetable grower for the Urbana farmers market, and a driver for both Polings and Abbotts auto dealerships in Monticello. Ralph was a collector of antique tractors and farm machinery.
Memorials may be made to the Faith in Action or the Piatt County Nursing Home.
