Rachel Vernice Dyson Funk, 86, of Monticello, passed away at 5:20 AM on Friday, July 29, 2011 at her residence.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 5, 2011 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello, with Rev. Dalene Kuebler officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at Monticello Township Cemetery.
Vernice was born March 24, 1925, the daughter of Elmer and Carrie (Poll) Dyson. She married William Hostler March 14, 1949 and after his passing she married Ray Funk January 6, 1967 in Monticello.
Surviving is her daughter, Vickie (John) Martin of Champaign; brother, Marion (Betty) Dyson of White Heath; sisters, Elsie Reed of Urbana, Rachel Jones of Decatur; sister-in-laws, Gunille Dyson of Springfield and Bonnie Dyson of Morris, daughter-in-law, Jo Ellen Funk of Monticello 4 grandchildren; Misty Martin of Decatur, Tami Hand of TX, Jamie Moreno of MI, and Steve Walker of Germany, 3 step grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, spouses, son (Gary L. Walker), 4 brothers and 1 sister.
Vernice retired from the University of Illinois where she worked as a lab tech. She was a member of the White Heath United Methodist Church, enjoyed reading, and attended the St. Marys Adult Day Care of Decatur. The family would like to express a special thank you to St. Johns Hospice.
