Pauline Shonkwiler Obituary
Pauline Shonkwiler, 95, of Monticello, passed away at 5:57 PM, Saturday, October 17, 2009 at Kirby Hospital in Monticello.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Bement Township Cemetery.
Pauline was born on June 2, 1914 at the House in the Woods Allerton Park in Monticello the daughter of John and Emma Matilda (Priebe) Ashby. She married Cecil E. Shonkwiler on July 14, 1940 in Decatur, IL. He passed away September 2, 1996.
Surviving is her son; Larry (Karen) Shonkwiler of Gridley, daughter; Dianne Geissal of Monticello, 3 grandchildren; Dawn Ellen (Jack) Cobb, Emily Elizabeth (Matt) Lightner, and Benjamin Andrews (Lindsay) Geissal, 2 great grandchildren; John Henry and Lillian Ruth Lightner. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 sister (Waneta Adams), 1 nephew (John Bud Adams) and 2 uncles (Elmer and Albert Priebe).
Pauline was a loving farm wife. She was a member of Womens Farm Bureau, Piatt County Home Extension, Haneline Club, and the Tatman Village Board. Pauline enjoyed gardening and grew African Violets for 40 years. She also collected rooster and cardinal figurines, was a great cook, and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Paulines passing brings another chapter of the Allerton legacy to a close. The Shonkwiler, Priebe, and Ashby families were associated with Mr. Allerton for nearly a century and she would often relate interesting stories of life on the Allerton Estate.
Memorials may be made to Kirby Hospital or Allerton Park.
