Paul D. Beamer, 98, formerly of Champaign, passed away on October 15, 2012. He has been a resident of the Farmer City Rehab and Health Care Center. He was born September 21, 1914 in Avonmore, Penn. He married Estella M. Johnson on October 30, 1936. She preceded him in death on March 12, 1998.
Paul is survived by son Curt Beamer (White Heath), 5 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
He graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in Veterinary Medicine. He began teaching at the University of Illinois where he earned his Masters Degree of Science and PhD in Veterinary Pathology and Hygiene.
Dr. Beamer was a member of Sigma Xi, Honorary Scientific Fraternity, Gamma Sigma Delta, Agriculture Honorary and Phi Zeta, Veterinary Honorary. He has published 40 papers dealing with animal disease and control.
While at the University, he served as chairman of the North Central States Research Committee investigating New Castle disease and diseases of young swine. He also served on the committee investigating Mucosal disease of cattle.
Dr. and Mrs. Beamer spent four years in India where he served as advisor to the Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Ultar Pradesh Agriculture University, Phoolbagh, India.
Dr. Beamer served the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois for 40 years.
