Othella Remmers passed away at her home of 48 years in Cisco on May 9th, 2010. She was 96 years young.
Born August 10, 1913 in southern Indiana near Buffaloville, she was one of four daughters of John and Daisy Hicks Taylor. She married Fred C. Remmers on February 2, 1937 and had five children. Surviving are two daughters, Norma (Bruce) Miles of Maroa and Cathy (Keith) Tyler of Cisco, and two sons, Fred P. Remmers of Sugar Tree, TN and Joe (Kathy) Remmers of Cisco. She has 16 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Othella graduated from Argenta High School and has lived in the Argenta/Cisco area over 95 years. She was a member of the Cisco United Methodist Church, serving as their pianist for many years. She was a member of the Cerro Gordo Woman's Club for 50 years and the Craig-Reed American Legion Auxiliary, a past president. She was a homemaker, but had fond memories of working at the Pattengill Apple Orchard during harvest seasons and cooking for the 4-H camp. She was also a caregiver for several different area families. She loved her family, traveling, music, and playing piano. Her sense of humor, quick wit and loving nature will be missed by all of her family and friends.
Othella was preceded in death by her husband; her first son, Jon; three grandchildren: Tina Remmers, Kami Dalton, and Debbie Cook; and by her beloved three sisters: Hazel Pirtle, Betty Clapp and Norma Toon.
Visitation is at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello from 5:00-7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 11, 2010. Funeral services will be at the Cisco United Methodist Church at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 with interment at the Croninger Cemetery. Please join the family at the Cisco Legion following the service. Memorials may be made to the Cisco United Methodist Church.
