Oscar J. Curry, 87 of Monticello, passed away at 8:55 AM, Saturday, November 15, 2008 at the Piatt County Nursing Home.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at the Monticello United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Eischen officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home. Interment will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Champaign with Military graveside rites.
Oscar was born June 25, 1921 in Mansfield the son of Timothy P. and Elsie F. (Burnette) Curry. He married Beverly La June Fought on January 10, 1946 in Urbana.
Surviving are his wife: June Curry of Monticello, daughters: Connie Ms. Sunny (John) Jay of Mahomet, Bonnie Lou (Cecil) Harriss of Columbia, and Carol Lynne (Russ) Lake of Champaign, 8 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 1 sister.
Oscar retired from the First State Bank in Monticello where he was Vice President and cashier. Oscar was also Monticello Township Supervisor for 20 years. Oscar served in the U.S. Army during WW II, the Army National Guard and received a Bronze Medal while in the Army. He was a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church; charter President of the Monticello Lions Club, Hamm-Burke American Legion Post #101, Piatt County VFW Post #5346, Champaign County Sportsman Club, and the Yankee Ridge Clippers.
Memorials may be made to the Monticello Lions Club, the Piatt County Nursing Home or the Monticello United Methodist Church.
