Norma J. Cavanaugh

Norma Piatt Cavanaugh, of Monticello, passed away at 2:20 PM, Sunday, December 12, 2010 at Kirby Hospital, Monticello .
Born in Fairmount, IL, the youngest of seven, Norma Jean Maxey was the daughter of Thomas and Mattie Maxey. Following graduation at Covington, IN High School with the class of 1944, she worked as a private secretary in Indianapolis and Danville. She was married to Dale Lape. In 1957 she married Linden Piatt of Monticello, IL. He passed away in 1991. In 2004 she was married to James Cavanaugh. He survives. Also surviving are six Cavanaugh stepchildren. She leaves her only child, Deborah Westjohn and son-in-law Michael. Also surviving is a stepdaughter, Linda Calvin and her two sons Todd and Regan, all of California. One sister, Winifred Horney of Elmwood, IL, several nieces and one nephew also survive.
During different periods of her life, Norma's interest were sewing, golfing, drawing, and flower gardening as well as always enjoying time with friends. She was a long-time member of Monticello United Methodist Church, and also served as its Sunday school secretary for 41 years. She was a member of Woman's Club, Monticello Golf Club and Kirby Hospital Auxiliary.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Monticello United Methodist Church, the Salvation Army, or the American Cancer Society.
Her ongoing love for her family and the Lord was constant. She was beloved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A celebration of Norma Piatt Cavanaugh's life in Christ will begin with a visitation being held from 10:00-11:30 AM, Friday, December 17, 2010 at the Monticello United Methodist Church. The celebration will continue with a service at 11:30 AM, Friday, December 17, 2010 at the Monticello United Methodist Church 212 S. Independence St, Monticello with Rev. Dan Seibert officiating.
