Nancy Gelvin

Nancy Ann Gelvin, 77, passed away at 9:24 am on March 19, 2025 in Urbana.

Nancy was born February 26, 1948 and grew up in Champaign, having attended Dr. Howard, Edison and Champaign Central schools. She graduated from Presbyterian St Lukes School of Nursing and worked at that hospital for 28 years. She worked on a medical/oncology unit and then became a nursing supervisor for the medical floors. Nancy always went above and beyond for her patients, receiving many letters and cards of appreciation from them and their families for her care. She moved back to Champaign-Urbana in 2011 and loved “coming back home”.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, H.I. and Mabery Gelvin and Dorothy Mills; parents, Philip and Jane Gelvin; brother, Doug Gelvin; stepmother, Janet Danielson Gelvin; aunt, Rosann Noel and cousin, Tony Noel.

She is survived by her sisters, Linda Yates of New Glarus, WI and Susan Gelvin of Champaign; nephew, Chris Yates (Lindsay) of CA; niece, Melissa Yates of NJ; great niece, Julia Yates; uncle, Richard Noel of Champaign; cousins, Daniel Noel (Robin) of Champaign and Matthew (Nancy) Noel of CA; stepbrothers, Ramey, Fritz and Jason Danielson and stepsister, Elizabeth Danielson Reynolds and their families.

There will be no services. Owens Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Mabery Gelvin Gardens at Champaign County Forest Preserve-PO Box 1040, Mahomet, IL 61853; or at champaignforests.org specifying Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve and Gelvin Garden under message.
