Myrlin Buckingham Obituary
Myrlin F. Buckingham, 95 of Monticello, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2009 at 10:55 AM at the Piatt County Nursing Home.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at the Monticello United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Eischen officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Monticello Township Cemetery with Military graveside rites. Mackey-Wright Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Myrlin was born on March 1, 1914 near Lintner, IL the son of Noah H. and Ada (Beery) Buckingham. He married Dorothy Ada Edwards on May 17, 1944 in La Place, IL. She passed away December 4, 2000.
Surviving is his son: Charles (Vickie) Buckingham of Maroa and granddaughters: Kathleen and Kristen Buckingham. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one sister (Lois Roberts) and one brother (Herman Buckingham).
Myrlin graduated from Hammond High School in 1932. He was a Chauffer for Adolph Mueller in Decatur from 1936-1940. He wintered in Miami Beach, FL and Cuba. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in October 1941 and took part in Salamoa Islands and New Guinea. During WW II he served in the 162nd Infantry 41st Division and was discharged in December 1945. Myrlin started working for Robert Allerton in 1945 as grounds foreman where he worked for 36 years as a University of Illinois employee. He enjoyed taking care of the hedges and flower gardens. He was a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church, The Heritage Center, Piatt County Historical and Genealogy Society, Piatt County Farm Bureau, Hamm-Burke American Legion Post #101, Monticello United Methodist Church Choir for 54 years and the Alleluia Chorus of Hammond for 25 years. His hobbies included gardening, woodworking and he enjoyed traveling.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Piatt County Nursing Home and staff, special neighbors, and his Monticello United Methodist Church family.
In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Monticello United Methodist Church or Allerton Park.
