In Loving Memory of M.N.C. Nair
1942 – March 13, 2025
With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of M.N.C. Nair (82), who left us on March 13, 2025. Born in 1942 in Kerala India, he was a man of great intellect, leadership, with an enduring passion for learning. His wisdom and generosity uplifted those around him, leaving a lasting impact on his family, friends, and community.
A dedicated leader and mentor, M.N.C. Nair helped found the Nair Association of Greater Chicago (NAGC) and the Nair Service Society (NSS) of Chicago. He also served as President of the NSS of North America and was an active member of several other organizations including the Federation of Kerala Associations in North America (FOKANA) and the Kerala Association of Chicago. Fostering a sense of unity and cultural pride among generations is his legacy. His kindness extended beyond his immediate community; he supported many in their transition to becoming American citizens, offering guidance and encouragement as they built new lives in the United States.
His legacy of knowledge, service, and compassion will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
M.N.C. was an entrepreneur, founding his own company, Nair Business Systems. He also worked for several companies including Atomic Energy & RC Cola. His service to higher education included Kankakee Community College, Governor’s State University and the University of Illinois. He retired as the Director of Alumni Services at U of I, where he also earned his Executive M.B.A. One of M.N.C.’s greatest passions was traveling. In addition to India, he and Raji visited many countries all over the world.
His presence will be deeply missed, and his spirit will live on in the many lives he touched.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Raji, his daughter Apsara (Chad) Sorensen, his son Udai, and his cherished grandchildren, Maya and Zane. He also leaves behind his three sisters, Saroja, Indira, and Kumari (Money), and many beloved nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.
A visitation will be held on March 23 from 1:30 – 3:30 PM at Owens Funeral Home, 101 North Elm Street, Champaign, IL.
