Maurice Wileaver Obituary

Maurice Max Moe Wileaver, 73, of Champaign, died at 12:00 p.m., November 13, 2011 at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello. Private family services will be held at a later date.
Maurice was born May 2, 1938 in Monticello the son of Max Gahaza and Doris May (Wilkey) Wileaver. He married Margaret (Peggy) Shinker on October 29, 1966 in Mahomet.
Survivors include his wife; Margaret (Peggy) Wileaver of Champaign, son; Eric (Beth) Wileaver of Savoy, daughter; Heather (Tim) Hartman of Effingham, grandchildren; Brian Eric Wileaver, Jack Fisher Hartman, and Charlie Lake Hartman, sisters; Janet (Charles) Oakley of Monticello and Beverly (Dean) Carroll of Cisco. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He became certified as a Life Scout with the Boy Scouts of America in 1952. He graduated from Monticello High School in 1957.
He served in the U.S. Army as an M.P. from 1961-1964. He was stationed in Japan and awarded the Good Conduct Medal.
He retired after more than 29 years of service with the Champaign Police Department as patrol sergeant. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Award in 1977, was named Officer of the Year in 1978 and received the Medal of Valor in 1979.
He was an avid Bears fan, voracious reader, and loved to spend many hours surfing the web for recipes and online poker games. He participated in several local Texas Hold Em poker games and was awarded two Senior Olympics medals for Billiards.
He was a loving husband and father who took great joy in his grandsons.
