Maurice Beckhart Obituary
Irvin Maurice Beckhart, 78, died Sunday, January 17, 2010, at Kirby Hospital, Monticello.
He was born September 3, 1931, at his familys home on the Allerton Farms, the son of Irvin H. and Marjorie (Searles) Beckhart. Maurice farmed the land on which he was born for more than four decades. In addition, he was a well-known auctioneer in the area, and a real estate broker in Monticello and Marco Island, Florida.
He graduated from Monticello High School in 1948, and attended the University of Illinois until returning to the farm upon his fathers death. He married Kathryn I. Perry on October 14, 1950.
Maurice is survived by his wife Kathryn; children John and wife Jodi of Cisco; Julia and husband Bruce Jones of Madison, Wisconsin; and Paul and wife Barret Brown of Arcata, California. He also leaves behind his sister, Joyce Watson and husband Philip of Ashmore; brother Jim Beckhart and wife Shirley of Mt. Zion; brother Rick Beckhart and wife Sherry of Bonita, California; grandchildren Andrew Jones and wife Erin Graham, Jonathan Beckhart, Emily Beth Jones, Jessica Beckhart and Eric Jones, and step-granddaughters Karin and Killarney Roscoe. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He served as the past Grand Master of Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. No. 58.
Maurice was an avid golfer, retired runner, master of subjects both profound and trivial, expert poker player, crossword puzzle solver extraordinaire, and an all-around raconteur. He rode horses, piloted boats, scoured yard sales, clipped coupons and collected stories. Most of all he was a loving, protective and caring husband and father. We shall miss him tremendously.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation and lasting gratitude to the entire staff of Kirby Hospital for the professional, compassionate and loving care they provided Maurice in the last few months. We also want to thank the Provena Hospice, Faith In Action and Piatt County Nursing home staffs for their support and guidance.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello. Friends and family will gather afterwards at the Monticello Golf Club to celebrate Maurices life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who wish to remember Maurice consider a donation in his name to the Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, Faith In Action or Provena Hospice.
