Mary Ellen Cravens

Mary Ellen Cravens, 86, of Monticello, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2026 at Piatt County Nursing Home.

There will be a graveside service on Monday, June 15 at 11:30 am at Monticello Township Cemetery.

Mary Ellen was born on July 2, 1939 in Monticello, the daughter of Marian (Maier) and Piatt Lang. She married Larry Cravens on May 6, 1960 and together they had 2 children. She worked at Monticello Lumber, Kirby Hospital, Americana, Pioneer Realty, Viobin and retired from the University of Illinois.

She is survived by her husband, Larry; daughter, Anne (Scott) Price of Weldon and son, Chris (Tricia) Cravens of Monticello; 4 grandchildren, Ben (Colby) Cravens, Tyler (Ashley) Cravens, Emily (Mitch) Rolson and Meg Price; 5 great grandchildren, Charlotte, Catherine, Hayden, Charlie and Claire and 1 brother, Louie Mooney.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 1 brother, Bob Mooney.

Mary Ellen was selfless, she always put the needs of her family and friends ahead of her own. She enjoyed reading, coloring and crocheting but her favorite was spending time with her grandkids. She was an avid U of I basketball and professional golf fan. Mary Ellen loved her many pets over the years, and most recently her cat, Lucy.

The family would like to thank the staff at Piatt County Nursing Home for the care they gave to Mary Ellen.
