Mary Zvonar Obituary

Mary A. Zvonar, 97, of Monticello, formerly of Niles, IL, died at 1:35 AM, September 11, 2007 at the Piatt County Nursing Home, Monticello, IL.

Funeral Arrangements are being handled by the Forest Glen Funeral Home in Chicago and the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home in Monticello. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at the Trinity Lutheran Slovak Church 5106 North La Crosse Ave. Chicago, IL. 60630. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at the Bohemian National Cemetery in Chicago.

Mary was born February 10, 1910 in Chicago, a daughter of Imrich and Maria Ruttkay. She married Martin Zvonar on August 31, 1935. He preceded her in death on October 31, 1962.

Survivors include one son: Martin J. (Karen Ann) Zvonar of Monticello, two grandsons: John M. (Dana) Zvonar of Carlyle, IL and Robert W. (Kristin) of Frankfort, IL. Also five great grandchildren: Zachery, Lucas, and Jillian Zvonar of Carlyle and Trey and Tyson Zvonar of Frankfort.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 brothers, an infant son, and an infant great granddaughter.

In her early years Mary was affiliated with a Czechoslovak gymnastic organization called SOKOL. She held the title of Gymnastic Instructor of Women. She toured the Middle-West and Eastern United States, both performing and teaching her skills to her peers. In later years she was employed as a bookkeeper, stenographer, key punch operator, and real estate agent. She was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Slovak Church in Chicago serving on many board positions over the years. She also was active in the Niles Art Guild Club and Historical Museum.

Memorials can be made to the Piatt County Nursing Home Assisted Living Project, 1111 N. State St. Monticello, IL. 61856.
