Mary Ellen Rexroad

Mary Ellen Rexroad, 90, passed away on Nov. 23, 2023 at home in Mahomet. She was born April 12, 1933, to Robert and Myrtle Beckett. She married Harrison Rexroad on April 1, 1952, and raised her family in Mahomet.

She was preceded in death by her parents; nine siblings; two children, James Rexroad and Nikki Keller; and three granddaughters, Michelle Ackerman, Maggie Boles and Miriam Sawka.

Mary leaves behind two children, Betty Jo Armstrong and Jeremy Hugh Rexroad; three grandchildren, Stephanie Sawka, Ben Ackerman and Emily Watts; nine great-grandchildren: Stephon Watts, Andi-Lynn Jones, Bailey Sawka, KJ Watts, Elizabeth Sawka, Brandi Boles, Benjamin Boles, Evangeline Ackerman and Lucian Ackerman; and one great-great-grandchild, Austin Watts.

Mary’s true love was caring and cooking for her family. She also liked playing bingo and meeting up with friends. She used her gifts of hospitality and cooking in the two restaurants she and her husband owned: Rex’s Pizza in Mahomet and Rex’s at Clifford & Jacobs. Mary was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mahomet.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 28, at First Baptist Church of Mahomet (402 S. Elm, Mahomet). Friends may greet the family at 10 am for a time of visitation. Burial will immediately follow the service at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign.
