Mary La Verne Ellis Hayes, 89, of Mansfield, passed away Thursday evening, February 3, 2011 at her home.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, February 7, 2011 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home with Rev. Wesley Cornwell officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello. Interment will be in Mansfield Cemetery.
La Verne was born April 9, 1921 in Monticello the daughter of George Golda Dutch and Ethel (Magill) Ellis. She married John (Jack) W. Hayes on August 10, 1939 in St. Charles, Missouri.
Survivors include her son; Jack Linden (Sue) Hayes of Monticello, two grandsons; Matthew William Hayes of DeLand and Judd Warner (Heather) Hayes of Mansfield, one great grandson, four great granddaughters, and a sister; Janice Bushue of Monticello. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a grandson (Todd Warren Hayes), two brothers (Robert and Richard Ellis), and a sister (Marie Musick).
She had resided on the farm in Galesville since 1951. She retired from Viobin Corp as a bookkeeper in 1983 after 31 years; she enjoyed working with her husband on the farm; her hobbies were cooking, camping and riding her John Deere lawnmower. She was a member of the Lodge Church of God and the Champaign Sportsmens Club, Mahomet. La Verne and Jack retired in 1986 but in her heart she never stopped farming.
Memorials may be made to the Lodge Church of God, the Champaign Sportsmens Club or the donors choice.
