Mary Hanratty, of Urbana, formerly of Mattoon, passed away at 7:06pm on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at the age of 70.
She is survived by her devoted husband Vincent Hanratty of Urbana; loving daughter Hillary Dunn (Joe) of Mattoon; sister Marcia Roetker of Mattoon; brother John Roetker (Vicki) of Ottawa; niece Alison Roetker, nephew Jordan Roetker (Erica), great-nephews, Ethan Roetker and Elliott Roetker, great-niece Mackenzie Roetker, all of Ottawa.
She was preceded in death by her parents Norbert Roetker and Eva (Roetker) Metcalf and stepfather Harry Metcalf.
Mary was born on June 28, 1953 in Mattoon. She married Vincent Hanratty on December 22, 2006. She graduated from Mattoon High School, class of 1971. She graduated from Parkland College in Champaign, with a degree in Radiologic Technology. She was employed as an X-ray technician for most of her working life at OSF (Provena) in Urbana, until retiring in 2015.
Mary enjoyed cooking meals with her husband and spending time with their beloved puppies, Gully and Jo. Mary was a private person who spent most of her time crocheting, reading novels by Nora Roberts and never missed an episode of the Outlander series on television. Mary was an avid listener of classical music especially instrumental brass ensembles. She was a fan of The Stylistics and other R&B collaborations. Mary will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at Owens Funeral Home in Champaign. The visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:00pm-2:00pm at the funeral home. Final resting place for Mary’s ashes will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Urbana.
