Mary Ellen Grove, 86, of Cheyenne, WY, formerly of Monticello, passed away July 28, 2011 at the Davis Hospice Center in Cheyenne.
Mary Ellen was born January 2, 1925 in Monticello, IL to Levi F. (Barney) Giffin and Kathryn Giffin-Parton. She graduated from Monticello High School in 1942 and worked at General Cable, retiring after 27 years of service in 1990. Mary Ellen was an active volunteer at the Senior Nutrition Center for many years and received the Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award in 2001.
She is survived by 4 daughters; Kathy (Ken) Roberts of Cheyenne, WY, Liz Scott of Jacksonville, IL, Becky (Dennis) Gidcumb of Albuquerque, NM, and Maggie (Ralph) Paquin of Farmer City, IL; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers, David Giffin and twin, John (Bud) Giffin.
Her favorite memories were of her St. Philomena Church family and her weekly McDonalds coffee club.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, August 4, 2011 at the St. Philomena Catholic Church with Fr. Bruce Lopez officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello. Interment will be in the Monticello Township Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to St. Philomena Catholic Church in Monticello or Davis Hospice Center, 6000 Sycamore Rd, Cheyenne, WY, 82009.
