Mary Dorn Obituary

Mary Alice Dorn, 94, of Monticello, was promoted to be with her Lord at 5:35 PM, June 5, 2009 at the Piatt County Nursing Home.
Memorial service will be at 2:00 P M Monday, June 8, 2009 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Tim Bauler officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Private family inurnment will be in Bement Township Cemetery.
Mary was born December 7, 1914 in Worcester, MA the daughter of Francis Edward and Fannie Ethel (Prescott) McDermott. She married Herman William Dorn on April 2, 1934 in Peterborough, N.H. He passed away in June of 1981.
Surviving are her daughters: Cynthia Witt and Juliet Dorn of Monticello, sons: Prescott Dorn of Texas and Barrett Dorn of Arizona, 3 grandchildren and 4 step grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren, 2 great-great step grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 2 sisters (Dorothy Cronin and Helen McDermott).
Mary was a housewife. She was a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church, lifetime member of the DAR, she and her husband were active members of the Decatur Shrine Grotto Auxiliary volunteered at the Piatt County Nursing Home for 15 years and the Senior Nutrition Center. Mary was an avid reader, created beautiful needle work, was a gifted artist, painter, and creative writer. She loved animals (especially cats) and the color pink. She was a true New England lady that loved the seashore and the ocean and was noted for her New England accent. She enjoyed traveling to Australia, England, the British Isles, and New Zealand. Mary was a very humble, unassuming, gentle lady.
Memorials may be made to the Piatt County Animal Shelter or the Piatt County Nursing Home.
