Marvin Chapman Obituary

Marvin Chapman, 75 of Monticello, formerly of Elizabethtown, IL, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at 6:35 PM at the Piatt County Nursing Home.
Visitation will be held at Mackey-Wright Funeral Home 215 E. Washington, Monticello on Tuesday, February 10, from 5:00-7:00 PM. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass is scheduled at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, February 11, at St. Philomena Catholic Church 1301 N. Market, Monticello. Father Bruce Lopez will officiate assisted by Father Ignatius Okonkwo of St. Joseph Catholic Church , Elizabethtown. Burial will be in Monticello Township Cemetery with Military graveside rites.
Marvin was born on April 17, 1933, in Gentry, MO, the son of William and Noni (Piatt) Chapman. He married Carol E. Davis on September 11, 1990 in Elizabethtown. She survives.
Survivors include two sons, Joshua Chapman of Raleigh, NC and William Chapman of Mahomet; two daughters, Shirley McDonald of Paducah, KY and Amy Chapman of NC; two step-children, Mindy Patton of New Badin, IL and Eric Phillips of Sarasota, FL; his brother, Glen Chapman of Stanbury, MO; his two sisters, Betty (Floyd) Linville of Skidmore, MO and Sarah Messener of Grant City, MO; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and one sister.
Marvin served in the Army and Air Force for 20 years retiring in 1970. He received the Korean Service Medal and the Bronze Star during the Vietnam Conflict. He retired as a Warrant Officer. Marvin also retired as a machinist from Design and Manufacturing of Fisher, IL in 1995. He enjoyed gardening, wood-working, fishing, and flying model airplanes.
Memorials may be made to Piatt County Nursing Home or St. Philomena Catholic Church.
