Marion Richard King, 73, of Savoy, formerly of Monticello and Urbana, passed away at 8:55 p.m., October 23, 2012 at the Champaign-Urbana Regional Rehab Center, Savoy.
Marion was born on March 19, 1939 in Urbana, IL the son of Walter and Edna (McDaniel) King. He married Marcia K. Wacker on August 21, 1981 in Champaign.
Marion is survived by his wife; Marcia King of Savoy, sons; Richard and Darrell King both of Urbana, stepchildren; Gary Thomas of Vero Beach, FL and Julie Reed of Monticello, 11 grandchildren, mother; Edna King of Newman, brothers; Grover King of Melrose, IL and Jim King of Champaign, sisters; Lucy Schoonover of Urbana, Nancy Wisehart of Homer, Judy Rothermel of Camargo, and Sandy Gentry of Villa Grove. He was preceded in death by his father, 2 brothers, 1 sister, and 1 stepson (Russell Thomas).
Marion was a retired Urbana policeman and locksmith. Marion served in the U.S. Army National Guard and was a member of the First Christian Church of Monticello. His favorite hobby was pitching horseshoes and he enjoyed being outside.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 26, 2012 at Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello with Rev. Mike Smith officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery, Philo.
