Marian B. Yockey, age 79, of Monticello, passed away at 9:15 AM, Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at the Piatt County Nursing Home.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 5, 2008 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home with Steve Ingram and Gregory Swango officiating. Visitation will be 6:00 8:00 PM, Friday April 4, 2008 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Monticello Township Cemetery.
Marian was born July 2, 1928 near Seymour, Illinois, the youngest of twelve children born to George and Media (Patterson) Wittig. She married Lyle C. Yockey on March 4, 1947 in Monticello. He passed away on August 5, 1986.
She is survived by five children: L. Duane (Carolyn) Yockey of Normal, Illinois; Brenda (Roger) Wisegarver of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; Barbara (Michael) Lucas of Riverton, Illinois; David Yockey of Monticello, Illinois; and Bonnie (Gregory) Swango of Decatur, Illinois. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, 2 brothers, George Slim Wittig of Monticello, Ray Wittig of Champaign, and 3 sisters, Pauline Whitehouse of Monticello, Margarite Elder of Champaign, and Catherine Kitty Benson of White Heath. She was preceded by four brothers and two sisters.
She was a cook at the DeLand Grade School in DeLand, Illinois, and Washington Grade School in Monticello, Illinois. She was also a cook at the Monticello High School for 22 years.
She was baptized at the DeLand Christian Church on her 12th birthday and was a member of the First Christian Church of Monticello.
She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved serving others and being with and making new friends; she didnt know a stranger. She enjoyed being active by walking, biking, mowing her yard, playing cards and games, camping, singing and playing church hymns on the piano.
Memorials may be made to Piatt County Faith in Action and the Halcyon Unit of the Piatt County Nursing Home in Monticello.
