Marian Mardell Buchanan

Marian Mardell Buchanan, 84, of Monticello, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend to so many, has lost her battle with cancer. She passed away at 4:00 a.m. Thursday (January 17, 2008) at Kirby Hospital in Monticello.
Born June 9, 1923 in rural Monticello to Carlos and Lelia Dolly (Welch) Hoffman, she married Fenimore Buchanan August 24, 1940. Although they spent time in several different states across the U.S., as well as many different areas in Piatt County, the couple ultimately made Monticello their home. Their ventures along the way included owning and operating the White Heath restaurant during the late 50s/ early 60s. After farming for several years, Fenimore died May 13, 1987.
Also preceding her in death were her brother, Charles Hoffman; sister, Helen Summers; and granddaughter, Carly Reeder.
Marian is survived by her children-daughter Carla (Mike) Hawkins, Son Terry (Mary Ann), and daughter Debbie (Mike) Reeder, all of Monticello; 11 grandchildren- Brenda (Ron) Falk, Monticello; Paula (Joe) Hardy, Monticello; Carlos (Typhani) McClellan, Monticello; Billie Joe Lowenstein, Bement; Tera Terven, Fisher; Monica Williams, Monticello; Travis (Kelli) Buchanan, Monticello; Sean (Angela) Reeder, Monticello; Chad (Chris) Reeder, Monticello; Brett (Jamie) Reeder, Ft. Worth Texas; Tracy (Pat) Tieman, Bement; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She dearly loved her family and felt very blessed to have so many wonderful, caring friends. Thankfully, hundreds of them reassured her of their friendship during her final days with cards and visits.
Marian will be remembered for so many reasons, but mostly sprinting about town making regular stops at the grocery store picking up items to complete the hundreds of orders she filled at the Food Pantry; the Methodist Church to greet people every Sunday Morning; Kirby Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop to work her shift and at the Nursing Home to volunteer her services. She was also a regular at the Rotary Club meetings every Wednesday, cooking and serving lunch. In 1999, the United Methodist Women presented her with their Service Award; and, in 2001, she was recognized as Monticellos Citizen of the Year. She was a true humanitarian and will certainly be missed by her family and friends.
Visitation will be held at Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello, from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, January 20, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 21, 2008 at the Monticello United Methodist Church.
