Margaret “Misty” Tyson Fonner, 80, of Champaign, Illinois, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, May 20, at Clark-Lindsey Green House, following complications of Alzheimer’s disease.
Misty was born in Elgin, Illinois, to Robert and Mary Tyson. She later made her home in Champaign, where she raised her family and built a life centered around love, kindness, and family. She married the love of her life, Vernon Fonner, in Danville, Illinois. Vernon preceded her in death in 2013, and she missed him dearly throughout the years that followed.
She is survived by her daughter, Anne Button, and son-in-law, Jim Button; her sons, Brooks Fonner and Vernon John Fonner; four beloved grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Misty worked for several years with Champaign Unit 4 Schools. Outside of work, she found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved her dogs and cats, spending time in her garden, cooking alongside her husband, and trying new foods together. She and Vernon especially cherished traveling and the many memories they created together.
Above all, Misty was devoted to her family. Her gentle spirit, warmth, and love will be deeply missed by those who knew her. Her family is profoundly grateful for the compassionate care and kindness shown to her by the nurses, CNAs, and staff at Clark-Lindsey and Town Square Hospice during her final years.
In accordance with Misty’s wishes, there will be no formal service. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
She will be missed terribly and remembered always with love
