Lula Mae Giese

Lula Mae Giese (91) of Monticello passed from this earthly life in the early morning of February 4, 2011. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Tim Bauler officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral home from 5-7 PM. She was born January 14, 1920, the beloved daughter to Losier Stanley and Gladys Stanley in Ingraham, Illinois. Lula Mae graduated from Monticello High School. On July 17, 1938, this lovely young woman married Kenneth E. Gaskill. From this union, two daughters were born, Sondra S. (James) Bugg of
Assumption, Illinois, and Nancy G. Walters of St. Louis, Missouri.
Lula Mae's loving husband of 46 years passed away in 1984. She later married Fred Giese, who also passed in 2000. Lula Mae was blessed with a foster daughter Teri Heinzmann (Frank) of Universal City, Texas. Teri and Frank gave her three more grandchildren, Carl, Amanda and Kenny. When Lula Mae married Fred, two more daughters came into the family, Carolyn (Max) Hinton of Tolono, Illinois, and Joyce
(Quentin) Davis of Houston, Texas. Their children gave the family
five more grandchildren: Craig Hinton, Valerie (Stewart) Cousins,
Catherine Davis, Elizabeth Davis, and Emily Davis.

Lula Mae lived most of her life in Monticello where she was known to be a good daughter, wife, mother, friend, and a fine person. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Monticello for over 70 years where she taught church school classes, served as an elder on the church Session, chaired the Mission Committee, participated in women's circle Bible study, and faithfully served her God. She is remembered as a positive and generous woman.

The Monticello community and beyond benefitted from Lula Mae's active
personal and professional life. She was a loving wife and mother.
She served as librarian at Allerton Public Library for 26 years with dedication and creativity which helped make Allerton Library one of the finest. Community activities beyond her church included Monticello Women's Club, Women's Home Extension, local investment club, mentor for MOPS (Mothers of Pre-schoolers). and bridge club.

Lula Mae leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Sondra Bugg and Nancy Walters and son-in-law James E. Bugg; six grandchildren: Todd E. Bugg and wife Keely, Kent A. Bugg and wife Deborah, Amy E. Bugg, Matthew J. Bugg and wife Amy Lynn, Sarah Walters and husband Tim Baer, and Evan D. Walters. Ten great-grandchildren were very much loved by Grandma Lu: Emily and Daniel Bugg, Machenzie and Megan Bugg, Zachary Jackson, Nickolas and Carsyn Bugg, Cailyn and Charlie Baer. She was loving aunt to special nieces and nephews and cared very much for her two sisters-in-law. Rounding out her life are many, many, many
friends. Also in the mourning family are Carolyn and Max Hinton,
Gregory Hinton, and Valerie and Stewart Cousins, Joyce and Quentin Davis and daughters Catherine, Elizabeth, and Emily, Teri and Frank Heinzmann, and children Carl, Amanda and Kenny.

The family has selected two memorials to honor their mother and grandmother. Dear to Lula Mae's heart were Marion Medical Mission in Malawi (1412 Shawnee Drive, Marion, Illinois 62959) and the Heifer
International Project (PO Box 8058, Little Rock, Arkansas
72203-8058). We thank all who loved Lula Mae for helping to make her life so special.
