Lois Hamm

Lois Hamm, of Savoy, passed away after a long and well lived life on June 17, 2023 at the age of 98.

Lois was born on December 13, 1924 to Benjamin A and Anna (Woerz) Benson in Chicago, Illinois.  She graduated from Howard Taft High School in 1942. During high school she met Robert L Hamm from Chicago and wrote to him while in the Navy during World War II. After his return they were married June 15th, 1946 and went on to have three sons, Robert Jr, Don and Larry.

Lois and her family moved to Urbana in 1964 where she worked at Magnavox for a time and she was a homemaker.  They moved to Oakland, Illinois in 1974 where they built a home in the woods.  She loved having her grandchildren spend time with her, baking them cookies, picking berries and going on adventures.

Lois is predeceased by her parents, her brother, Bernard Benson, son Robert Jr, grandson Ryan Michael Hamm. She is survived by her sons Don (Donna) Hamm and Larry (Sue Bradford) Hamm; 5 grandchildren, Darren (Susan) Hamm, Neal Hamm, Tiffany (Aaron) Richardson, Sarah (Eric) Englehard, Mandy Hamm; and her four great grandchildren, Benson and Charlie Englehard and Lincoln and Rhett Richardson.

Lois had a great love for Chicago and loved to reminisce about her home, her school, the bank she worked at and downtown Chicago’s many landmarks.

There will be a visitation from 10:00-11:00 on Wednesday June 21 at Owens Funeral Home, 101 N. Elm St., Champaign, followed by a graveside funeral service at 12:00 at Maplewood Cemetery in Rantoul.
