Larry Inman, 83, died at home in Monticello on May 29, 2020, with family by his side.
He was born March 14, 1937, in Cameron, IL, last child of Ruth (Pistol) and Lyman Inman. He married Betty Wainman on May 24, 1958 in Berwick, IL. She preceded him in death on Dec. 31, 2011.
He is survived by daughter, Renee Inman and daughter-in-law Donnette Ploch; daughter-in-law Donna Inman; his four grandchildren, Jade Wagner, Greyson Killman (Sam Kilough), Zane Inman and Quinn Inman; great-grandchildren, Reid & Mairin Wagner, his sister, Joan McVey.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Lyman; sister Jeannette Jared; beloved son Scott Inman; grandson Severin Inman.
Larry worked almost his entire life as a banker, first for Farmers & Mechanics Bank in Galesburg, IL and then at Farmers-Merchants Bank in Paxton, IL, retiring as President in 2000. He liked helping people achieve their financial goals and providing excellent customer service. He also served in the National Guard and was an instructor of hand-to-hand combat.
Larry loved teasing his loved ones, playing party games, remodeling homes, and eating at restaurants. He was a handsome man that loved dressing sharp and dancing whenever the mood struck him. After his retirement, Larry devoted his attention to being a caretaker of his beloved wife and was a stellar example for the family in this regard. Living without Betty was one of his biggest challenges, and he reflected often on the life he had created, as well as the meaning of it all.
Larry finally came into the digital age in his later years and enjoyed his Facebook friendships dearly, writing stories of ‘days gone by’ and keeping an eye on his extended family. He was also known to be a practitioner in random acts of kindness and often paid money toward the next person’s checkout in line or left money at the local drug store to help people in need. He was a loving and gentle man, who will be dearly missed by family and friends.
An outdoor home visitation (mask requested) will occur in Monticello Saturday, June 6, from 2 pm to 5 pm. Graveside service will be delayed until a tentative date of July 11.
