Kenneth Kinzel Obituary
Kenneth Oberlin Kinzel, 81, of Monticello, died at 6:15 p.m. Monday (December 10, 2007) at the Bement Health Care Center. Visitation will be from 11am 1pm, with services to follow, Sunday, December 16, 2007, at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, 215 E. Washington, Monticello. Rev. Jason Butterick officiating.
Mr. Kinzel was born March 10, 1926 in Charleston, Illinois, a son of Oberlin B. Kinzel and Mame Housel Kinzel. He married Betty Redman in 1947. She and 4 children survive. He married Linda Shields in 1975 and became the stepfather to her three children.
Survivors include his wife Linda, daughters Sharon Kinzel of Gibson City, Jeanne Kinzel of Monticello, Janet Bishop and husband Jim of Tolono, Kenneth Doug Kinzel and Gail of Sabastopal, California, stepdaughters Sharon Greenarch and husband Marshall of White Heath and Susan Bennett and husband Joe of Cisco; seven grandchildren, Paula Nolte, Christopher Retter, Jennifer Meeker, Matthew Bishop, Jared Kinzel, Melissa Brinkley, and John Bennett; and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, special aunt and uncle C.C. and Olive Austin, his daughter Marcia, and stepson David.
Mr. Kinzel was a 1944 graduate of Central High School in Champaign. He received degrees in accounting from Illinois Commercial College and Browns School of Business. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WW II and later worked at Sterling Drug (Pepsin) for seven years. He retired from General Cable in Monticello as Plant Superintendent after 42 years of service.
He was a life member and former Grand Master of the Monticello Masonic Lodge #58 AF and AM, a member of the Ansar Shriners of Springfield, Member of the Lodge Council Chapter Consistory, Scottish Rite Bodies, Danville and Hamm-Burke American Legion Post #101. He volunteered his time working with charitable organizations such as Piatt County Services for Seniors, Friends of Piatt County Nursing Home and the East Central Area Agency on Aging.
Memorials may be made to the Bement Health Care Center.
