Kay Hemrich

On the evening of February 7th, 2023, Kay Lynn Hemrich, of Armstrong IL, passed away at the age of 79.


Kay was born in Lovington, IL to Harold and Betty Townsend. She graduated from Tuscola High School in 1961 and received her Bachelor's degree in Education from Eastern Illinois University in 1965. She went on to have a successful career and a life filled with family & friends. She used her degree to teach high school students before moving into the field of finance. She prepared complicated tax returns for many years. She loved to travel and lived in multiple states before returning home and managing the Tuscola Credit Union until her retirement in 1999.


Kay met the love of her life, George Hemrich, in 1993. Kay and George were married on November 11, 1995 and they have spent the last 27 years by each other's side. They have 1 child living at home, Jazmine (she’s a cat, but don’t try to tell her that). Kay loved spending time with her family and friends, laughing and sharing stories. She had a crazy joyous laugh. She also enjoyed reading late into the night with her baby, Jazmine, curled up on her lap.


Kay is survived by her devoted husband, George; her daughters, Suezane Goulding and Tina Hemrich; her sons, Tracy Hemrich and Ronny Hemrich; her daughters, Angie Luffel and Christine Grech; her grandchildren; her sisters, Beth (Ted) Turner, Joy Townsend, Nancy (Duane) Blackert; her brothers, Andrew Townsend and Christopher (Kristi) Townsend; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Harold and Betty; and her son-in-law Ronnie (Suezane) Goulding.

There will be a funeral service at 11:00am on Wednesday, February 15 at Owens Funeral Home (101 N. Elm St), Champaign, with the Rev. Mike Mack officiating.  The visitation will be one hour prior to the service (10:00-11:00).  Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery.
