Joyce Ann Livesay, 76, of Mahomet, received the gift of eternal rest on Friday, August 16, 2024.
There will be a visitation on Friday, Aug 23 from 4-6 pm at Mahomet United Methodist Church, 1302 E. South Mahomet Road. The funeral service will be on Saturday, Aug 24 at 10:30am at the church with Pastor Lori Harvey officiating. Burial will take place at Arthur Cemetery, at a later date.
Joyce was born in Monticello, a daughter of Robert and Shirley Mitchell Hood. She was a graduate of Arthur High School and attended Millikin University where she had received a scholarship for vocal performance.
Although music remained her passion throughout her life, it was not meant to be her life’s calling. What she wanted most was to marry the love of her life and start a family, which she did when she wed Richard Livesay in Arthur on Sept 3, 1966. As a wife and mother, she took pride in raising her children and found great joy in her grandchildren. Joyce also ran a home daycare for several years, so many other children benefitted from her nurturing.
While raising her family, Joyce was active in supporting both the schools and the community. She volunteered as a Helping Hand in the elementary school and contributed to getting the Mahomet-Seymour Marching Bulldogs to the Fiesta Bowl and The King Kamehameha Parade in Oahu. She also served on the board of Mahomet’s Friends of the Library and worked at the Mahomet Citizen.
Joyce was an avid shell collector who loved sharing both her knowledge and ‘spare’ shells with others. She often said “if someone can learn something from it, you should do it”. As an active member of Mahomet United Methodist Church, she enjoyed singing at senior living centers and was known for sending “Angel Whispers”, cards she created with scripture to comfort others who were experiencing difficult times.
Joyce leaves behind her beloved husband, Richard; daughter, Carrie (Jeremy Bell); son, Gregory (Gillian); grandsons, Justin and Kaleb Roberts and Landon and Gavin Livesay, as well as her soon-to-be grandson, Gunner Bell. Also surviving are sisters, Jeri (Tom) Marshall and Juli (Kerry) Krantz and sisters-in-law, Harriet (Paul) Tucker and Sharon (Joe) Hood. She had several nieces and nephews also included in her prayers.
Prior to her passing, Joyce had mourned the loss of her parents, Bob and Shirley Hood and Harry and Virginia Livesay; her brother, Joe Hood; 3 brothers-in-law and most of all, her grandson Joel Roberts.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or Mahomet United Methodist Church.
