It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joyce Elaine Goethe, 90, of Mahomet, Illinois on May 27th from complications due to a brief illness.
Born in Alton, IL, Joyce was passionate about her family and faith. She was a recognized antique doll dealer and avid antique collector - leaving no stone unturned at a local mall, estate sale or auction. She was a supporter of the arts, enjoyed jazz music, loved dogs and cheering for the St. Louis Blues. Whether volunteering at church events, local charities or ushering at The Fox Theater, she thrived while being engaged in her community.
Joyce was a devoted wife to David Goethe (d.) for thirty years, connecting in life after both being widowed. With her first husband, Carl Steibel (d.), they raised three children, Carl Steibel (Kim), of Kennesaw, GA, Laura Sherburn (Larry) of New Port Riches, FL, and Curt Steibel (d.). Joyce was an adoring step-mother to Andy Goethe (Paula), Lisa McGinn (Gregg) and Matt Goethe (Tina), and to her seven grandchildren, Cassandra Hart (Kyle), Cameron Goethe, Shannen McGinn, Danny McGinn, Ryan Stiebel, Eric Stiebel, Danielle Stiebel; and three great-grandchildren, Kye and Josephine Hart and Jaden Stiebel.
She will be remembered for her kindness and missed by all who knew her.
A memorial to celebrate her life will be held at Bridle Brook Assisted Living (1550 Patton Drive, Mahomet) in the private dining area on Sunday, June 8 from 10:30am-12 noon.
