John Edward Tate, 72, of Monticello passed from this life into eternity on May 18, 2011.
Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 11 AM Monday, May 23, 2011, at First Christian Church of Monticello. The Funeral Service will immediately follow at First Christian at 11 AM with Rev. Steve Ingram officiating. Interment will be in Mound Cemetery in Cowden, Illinois.
John was born on July 24, 1938 in Clinton, IL, the son of Hobart and Mary (Dorrell) Tate, both of whom died during his childhood. His sisters, Sally Beckman and Willene Haynes have also preceded him in death. He is survived by his brother James (Mary) Tate.
Upon high school graduation, John accepted employment with the General Cable Corporation in Monticello and married the late Lucille Waller. On January 23, 1970 he married Iola (Dial) Petty, his surviving spouse. Surviving children are Carole (Roger) Bogan, Kelly Tate, Emily Braunig, Vickie (Robert) Polarek, Rhonda (Steve) Towner, and Edward Petty. There are many surviving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
John retired from General Cable Corporation in 1999 after 43 years of employment. He was a member of First Christian Church in Monticello, an avid bowler, and a loyal Chicago Cubs fan. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Foundation.
