John Stoddard Obituary
John C. Stoddard, 82 of Monticello, passed away at 2:55 AM, Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at Carle Hospital in Urbana.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 17, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church of Monticello with Rev. Tim Bauler officiating and Military Rites. Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM, Friday, October 16, 2009 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home.
John was born on July 2, 1927 in Sioux City, IA the son of Bela Morgan and Mildred (Cessna) Stoddard.
Surviving are his children and their families, daughter: Jane Stoddard of Longmont, CO and grandsons John Edward and James David Anderson, son: John (Melissa) Stoddard II of Richmond, CA and grandchildren Mackey, Jennifer, Joanna, Aiza, and Melvin Stoddard, son: Paul (Sue) Stoddard of Monticello and granddaughter Jeryllyne (Kevin) Mumm and great grandchildren Garrett and Sydney Mumm, grandson Mark (Tina) Brandon and great grandchildren Peyton Brandon and Cole Pratt, granddaughter Kelly (Jeff) Nolan and great grandchildren Taylor and Tyson Howell, and grandson Chris (Lorrie) Brandon and great grandchildren Landis and Olivia Brandon, brother: Bela M. Bud Stoddard of McKinney, TX and special friend Elaine Powell of Monticello. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother (Bert Stoddard) and sister-in-law (Doris Stoddard).
John was a farmer and professional farm manager. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. John was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Monticello and was a former Director at the National Bank of Monticello. John was a world traveler and a student of the Chinese culture. He was an avid photographer, enjoyed backpacking, hiking and spending time with his family.
Memorials may be made to the Piatt County Nursing Home or the First Presbyterian Church of Monticello.
